Overview
This article describes troubleshooting audio settings for a Basic Needs laptop.
Instructions
When audio isn't working for a Basic Needs laptop, try the following:
- Locate drivers here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us?app=drivers.
- Wait for the website to detect the laptop model.
- Once it detects the model, click on the name of the laptop.
- Scroll down and click Find Drivers.
- Narrow the search by changing Download Type to Driver.
- Scroll down and select "Realtek High Definition Audio Driver" dated 17 September 2021.
- Once it's downloaded, launch the program.
- The program may require elevated permissions. If so, you may need to contact the Technical Support Center (TSC) to assist. The TSC can be reached at 913-469-7700.
- The computer may restart automatically when the program completes.
- After restarting, the program may re-launch. If this is the case, click Cancel and closed the program.
- Verify that the sound is working.
NOTE: Please put a note on the laptop after testing to confirm if the update resolved the issue. There's a known issue, and the update isn't fixing the problem for some of the laptops.
If this article didn’t answer your question or solve your issue, please call the TSC at 913-469-7700 or create a ticket by clicking here: (https://planning.jccc.edu/TDClient/37/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=206).
