Overview
This article describes the process for reporting a phishing/spam email in a Gmail inbox. Students will be able to follow these instructions on any device while signed in to Gmail with their stumail account.
Instructions
- Open Gmail and navigate to your inbox.
- Select the suspicious email(s) by checking the box next to it/them. You can select multiple emails to report at once.
- Select the octagon icon with an exclamation point below the search bar.
- If the email is part of a mailing list, you will be prompted to choose between Unsubscribe and Report Spam. If it's not a mailing list email, it will be reported as spam immediately.
- The email will be moved to your Spam folder.
- If you accidentally report an email as spam, a pop-up will appear at the bottom of the screen shortly after. You can click Undo to restore the email to your inbox.
- If you miss the undo option, go to your Spam folder, right-click on the email, and select Not Spam to move it back to your inbox.
