Report Phishing/Spam in Student Gmail Inbox

Overview

This article describes the process for reporting a phishing/spam email in a Gmail inbox. Students will be able to follow these instructions on any device while signed in to Gmail with their stumail account.

Instructions

  1. Open Gmail and navigate to your inbox.
  2. Select the suspicious email(s) by checking the box next to it/them. You can select multiple emails to report at once.
  3. Select the octagon icon with an exclamation point below the search bar.
  4. If the email is part of a mailing list, you will be prompted to choose between Unsubscribe and Report Spam. If it's not a mailing list email, it will be reported as spam immediately.
  5. The email will be moved to your Spam folder.
    • If you accidentally report an email as spam, a pop-up will appear at the bottom of the screen shortly after. You can click Undo to restore the email to your inbox.
    • If you miss the undo option, go to your Spam folder, right-click on the email, and select Not Spam to move it back to your inbox.
