Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Setup for New Student Accounts

Overview


Students need Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on their accounts to access some JCCC applications. This article details the steps needed to set up a phone number as MFA for students with new accounts.

This article is only for students with new accounts who are seeing a prompt that states, Let's keep your account secure. If you skipped that step and have already successfully logged into your account, please go to this article and follow the directions there.

After creating a new password the first time logging into your account at office.com, the user will be prompted for more information via a Let's keep your account secure box.

  1. Select Next.
  2. Select I want to set up a different method from the lower left corner of the box.
  3. Select the dropdown option to see available authentication methods.
  4. Select Phone.
  5. Enter your phone number, including the area code.
    1. If your phone carrier is not in the United States, select the correct country.
  6. Make sure the Text me a code radio button is selected.
  7. Select Next.
  8. You'll get a code via a text message to the phone number you entered.
  9. Enter the code where it tells you to enter it.
  10. Select Next.
  11. You'll get a Success! message.
  12. Select Done.
  13. You'll be promted to select Yes or No to staying signed in.
    1. If you are on a personal device, selecting Yes may reduce the number of times you are asked to sign in.
    2. If you are on a public device, select No.

NOTE: If you'd like to add additional MFA options, or if you skipped adding MFA when you were accessing your account the first time, you may do so by following the steps in this article.
