Overview
This article describes how a student should install the Respondus LockDown browser in order to take certain quizzes or tests in Canvas.
NOTE: Not all quizzes and tests in Canvas require the Respondus LockDown browser. Your instructor will let you know if this applies to your specific situation.
Instructions
- Navigate to a quiz or test in Canvas that requires the Respondus LockDown browser.
- Select Take the Quiz.
- An auto-install should begin when the student starts the quiz.
- If the installation does not happen automatically, follow this link to download it manually.
- Open the Respondus LockDown Browser file that was downloaded.
- Select the preferred language.
- Accept the terms of service.
- Select Finish.
- Close all other applications. Respondus will not run until all other sessions have ended.
- Run the LockDown Browser application.
- Once inside the application, navigate back to the quiz or test in Canvas and select Take the Quiz.
Chromebook or iPad users:
- The instructor must enable a setting in Canvas to accommodate them.
- Users will need to enter the Chromebook extension to use Respondus when prompted.
Note: Limitations and/or known issues with LockDown Browser for Chromebook:
- Quiz passwords (specified via the "optional password" field in the LockDown Browser Dashboard) aren’t currently supported.
- The “Early Exit” feature in LockDown Browser isn’t currently supported.
- LockDown Browser’s Calculator and Spreadsheet features aren’t currently supported.
- The extended keyboard functions (for adding symbols and special characters) aren’t currently available.
- LockDown Browser’s “Help Center” is currently unavailable.
- The "Allow access to specific external web domains" option is currently not supported.
